Make a Screenprint & a Book; Print & Handmade Craft Sale
Visit Shepherd & Maudsleigh Studio anytime from 1-3 PM during the Craft Crawl and try two of their most popular activities—Silkscreen Printing and Bookmaking. Instructors will guide participants on making their own silkscreen compositions and show them how to then turn the prints into miniature books just by cutting and folding. It’s a great introductory session to these two artforms, with an unbelievably low fee of just $5 per person. Shepherd & Maudsleigh will also have an Open Studio from 10-3 during the Craft Crawl, with member artists selling their prints and handmade gifts from pop-up, Sewing Seeds for Hope. The Allen Center
Decorate Cookies, Craft a Magical Fairy, Cut out a Snowflake
West Newton’s Allen Center has three holiday craft activities for Crawlers of all ages. Even better? Participants will be serenaded with live holiday music while they’re busy creating. From 1-3 PM, decorate holiday cookies alongside Naisbel Azarak and Haylee Kulig—two professional pastry chefs from NaisLee Catering. Then, craft a fairy from bits of yarn, scraps of fabric, and a wee bit of holiday magic. Before crafters leave they can snip out a snowflake to decorate their home or hang on the Allen Center’s tree. Pre-registration for cookie decorating is requested by emailing: Naisbel@naisleecatering.com All ages are invited, but parents will need to assist younger children.
Kidcasso
Unleash Creativity with a Holiday Craft Kit
West Newton’s fine art studio for kids, Kidcasso, is inviting children ages 3-10 to stop in from 1:15-2 PM during the Crawl to select and work on holiday craft kits. Kids choose a sensory-based, painting, snowman, or gingerbread house kit, roll up their sleeves, grab a seat, and spend forty-five minutes on their craft-masterpieces with guidance as needed from Kidcasso staff. For Craft Crawlers in a hurry, kits can also be picked up to work on at home. The fee is $20 per kit. 1275 Washington Street, West Newton.

Studio Open House & Sale
Did you know that Newton is home to Oprah’s “all-time favorite” stationery maker, Felix Doolittle? With heartfelt whimsical designs on stationery, cards, and gifts, Felix Doolittle not only caught Oprah’s eye, but has been featured in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and other publications.
With an art studio tucked away on Border Street in West Newton, Felix Doolittle is opening its doors to Craft Crawl shoppers to browse and purchase their illustrated holiday cards and gifts. Their latest collaboration of New England-themed mugs, plates, and kitchen towels created with local tableware maker, Caskata, is perfect for holiday gift-giving. The combination of Felix’s watercolor illustrations on Caskata's porcelain tableware is, well, magical!
On December 14th visit Felix Doolittle’s studio at 35 Border Street, West Newton from 11AM - 3PM. Felix and the team are excited to meet everyone!
Knot and Purl
Make Holiday Crafts or Learn to Knit
Pull up a chair (or couch) in Newton Highlands’ new community crafting space, Knot and Purl, and create glass mosaic coasters, macrame ornaments, or learn to knit. One part of this bright, open studio is dedicated to holiday crafting, while learn-to-knit lessons are on the comfy couches. Crafters 8+ are guided through making mosaic coasters and ornaments, while concurrent free knitting instruction is for adults and older kids interested in learning the basics. Have a younger child in tow? There are crafting projects for them, too. Prices for holiday crafting are:

Third Space Kitchen
Create & Enjoy an Edible Trifle
Newton Highlands’ Third Space Kitchen has just the thing for Crawlers who work up an appetite during a full day of crafting—a holiday trifle bar! From 12:30-2:30 PM this cooking school invites Crawlers of all ages to create their own edible masterpieces. Pick a personal-sized trifle cake cup, layer it with your favorite ingredients—puddings, cakes, creams, chocolates, and more—add colorful sprinkles and sparkling holiday toppers, and then pull up a seat to dig into your trifle (or bring it home to enjoy later.) Trifles are holiday-themed, with a selection of winter, Christmas and Hanukkah ingredients. Oh and there’s hot chocolate for everyone. The fee is $15 per person and pre-registration is requested.
Third Space Kitchen is a large, warm, wheelchair-accessible space with bathrooms. It’s a peanut and nut-free facility. 53 Winchester St., Newton Highlands
Derby Farm Flowers
Plant a Paperwhite
Creativity comes in many forms, and at Derby Farm it’s all about flowers. Stop into Derby Farm anytime from 10-5 to plant a Paperwhite that you can watch grow through the winter weeks or gift to someone special. Paperwhites are fragrant flowers that sprout from a bulb. The activity is suitable for all ages and fun for kids. It’s also a great stop for nature lovers, as Derby Farm is stocked with gifts and home accents that are inspired by nature. New Art Center
Make a Hanging Clay Decoration or Ornament
Newtonville’s New Art Center has A LOT going on during the Craft Crawl. In their clay studio, Crawlers of all ages are invited to make and take home a hanging clay decoration or ornament from air-dry clay. During the Crawl, The New Art Center is also hosting the Newton Children’s Book Festival, so visitors can peruse books, meet authors, and make a bookmark. The Clay Craft and Book Festival run from 10 AM-2 PM. The fee for the clay craft activity is $10 and the Book Festival is free. 61 Washington Park. (Please note that the clay studio is not wheelchair accessible.)
Creation Station
Create a Faux Gingerbread House & Sensory Holiday Fun
Its brick and mortar location has not even been open a year, but classes at children's art studio, Creation Station in Auburndale, are already filled with local kids. During the Craft Crawl, children aged 3-10 can design a faux gingerbread house, and immerse themselves in the studio’s festive sensory stations. Mini “gingerbread” houses are ready to paint and decorate for the holiday season. Kids do all of the designing. A bedazzled chimney? A pink polka dot roof? Walls covered in candy canes? Anything is possible. Kids leave with their finished masterpieces which can be used as holiday home decor. Before leaving, kids can dive into the holiday sensory stations for even more creative exploration and holiday fun.
The Gingerbread House Workshop runs at two different times during the Crawl: 2:30-3:30 and 4:00-5:00. Fee is $20/child and one adult. Children 6+ may be dropped off. 409 Lexington St., Auburndale
Fulfilled Goods
Craft Custom Bath Salts
Stop in at Fulfilled Goods during the Craft Crawl and concoct personalized bath salts at the Holiday Bath Salt Bar. Ingredients will be set up and then Bath Salt Designers pick and choose which essential oils, herbs and essences to add to the epsom salt base. Keep your custom bath salts for yourself or wrap them with a raffia bow for gifting. Bring your own jar or take one of the sanitized jars from the store’s supply. The activity is appropriate for all ages, but young kids will need an assist from parents. Bath salt cost is based on weight of products used.
